Everyone always asks me where I got Jack, and I proudly say, “I raised him.” This year we were SDQHA High Point in Amateur Showmanship, Horsemanship, Performance Halter Geldings and Reserve in Amateur Western Pleasure to be named the SDQHA All-Around Amateur. We also accomplished his AQHA Amateur Championship and the Center of the Nation Quarter Horse Association All-Around Amateur.

Another question people ask me is what do I do for a living that I can take this time off to show? So here is a little bit of my past history. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from SDSU in Brookings in December of 1997. I worked as the Breeding Manager for Sebring Quarter Horses for 2 years after graduation. I then accepted an opportunity of a lifetime to work with research involving cloning of cattle, pigs and sheep with a company in Wisconsin. I soon learned the cloning process and my first cloned calf was born shortly after. For 3 years I had a chance to work with people from all over the world. I then moved back to Minnesota and started working for the Minnesota Dairy Herd Improvement Association. I test milk and keep records for a number of different dairy herds in southwest Minnesota. I have a lot of late nights and early mornings, but I can also plan most of my own schedule. In order to help support the horse habit, I also work for my father’s company, Prairie Trailer, selling trailers and I sell Corn Cob Horse Bedding. What do I do in my spare time when I am not dairying, showing horses, selling trailers or acting as the SDQHYA Youth Advisor? I help my significant other farm, feed cattle, bale hay and try to keep the lawn mowed, garden weeded, strawberries picked and spend time with family.

Thanks to all my friends and family that shared 2009 and good luck in 2010.

ShurCo, a long time manufacturer of roll tarps has recently introduced the ProTrap Electric Hopper Door Opener system.

If you have driven past Prairie Trailer lately there is no way you could have missed the giant black wind blade in our front display lot. The blade is sitting on an International Specialized Trailer for which Prairie Trailer is a dealer. International Specialized manufacturers trailers for hauling wind generator towers and blades. When the opportunity came up for us to actually get a blade from a wind farm on the Buffalo Ridge in southern MN to display on our trailer, we just couldn’t pass it up. A local truck driver who has experience hauling blades made the trip to Lake Benton to pick the blade up with the assistance of some Prairie Trailer staff. It was interesting to see how tight of a corner an 80 ft blade could make. The International trailer is equipped with a remote controlled pony motor that steers the rear axles from the pilot car.

The blade is loaded and ready for transport back to Prairie Trailer

What also is interesting is the reaction of people on the road and in the towns that were driven through. Everyone stops to look or ask questions if they have the opportunity. It is an awesome sight to see something that big coming down the road, and the blade we were moving is only about half the length of the majority of blades being moved today.

Harvesting wind as an energy source is the wave of the future as we look for alternative energy sources. If you are in the business of wind energy and are in need of trailers to haul blades, towers or generators, give Prairie Trailer a call.

Prairie Trailer will be hitting the road in the upcoming months as we attend several area trade shows. First on the agenda is the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City, SD running January 30-February 8, 2009. We will have Eby livestock trailers on display at the show. Stop by our booth near the livestock arena and say hi.

April will be a busy month as we start off the month at the Central Plains Dairy Show in Sioux Falls, SD on April 1 & 2nd. On display will be Eby livestock trailers and Prairie Trailer’s own Side Chuter. The Side Chuter is a unique trailer in that it unloads off the sides and does it in a matter of seconds. View the video of it in action by clicking on the Side Chuter tab on our website.

Next on the agenda are the Minnesota Logger Education Conferences. The first will be held on April 7 & 8th in Walker, MN and the second conference will be held in Tower, MN on April 14 & 15th. We will be promoting our Walking Floor and tipper trailers at these sessions.

Rounding out the month will be two horse fairs. The first is the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison, WI to be held April 17-19, 2009. The Midwest Horse Fair is one of the top three horse expositions in the country. There will be plenty to see, learn and do so be sure to put it on your calendar. We will be promoting Eby horse trailers at the show, so if you are shopping for a new trailer, be sure to look us up!

If you can’t make the Midwest Horse Fair, plan on attending the MN Horse Expo the following week at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, April 24-26th, 2009. This is a show that just keeps on growing, if you are looking for a horse related product and can’t find it here, chances are you won’t find it anywhere. There will be plenty to see and do, but be sure to stop by our booth to check out our Eby horse trailers and say hi!

Stay tuned for more show dates as we near the summer months!

Early January reminded us what winter weather in Minnesota is all about! With -30 degree temperatures, snow and lots of wind it made life difficult for all of us. Cleaning the snow drifts out of the lot just so we could navigate was a daily job. We had quite a few calls and drive ins to our shop for trucks that were gelled up and trailers that were froze up. While some things just can’t be prevented, we would like to remind everyone that Prairie Trailer stocks a full line of fuel additives, anti gel and air line antifreeze to help you stay on the road. Currently we are running special pricing on several additives, including:

Howes Diesel Treatment 1/2 gallons $9.00 (treats 250 gals)

FPPF Biodiesel Treatment 1 quart $8.99 (treats 250 gals)

Schaeffers Diesel Treatment 1 gallon $38.99 (treats 1000 gals)

Lucas Extreme Treatment 1/2 gallons $16.99 (treats 250 gals)

Our parts department also has Interstate Truck batteries, Air dryers, governors and yes, we can even get tire chains! Stop by or give us a call, our parts department can help you with all of your truck and trailer needs.
